Loft 22 Review

Opening a hospitality business during a pandemic can only be described as a leap of faith but it is a leap that has been rewarded for recently opened Loft 22 in Albany.

Situated on Albany’s main drag, it is a real magnet for locals and passing tourists and looks to be doing great business.

We managed to snag a table just before 12 on a weekday and when we left about an hour later the place was buzzing.

The reason for that is of course the very good food not to mention the extensive wine list.

Billing itself as a wine and tapas bar, Loft 22 opened in December 2020. The large room that showcases modern décor and lots of greenery seats around 50 people. There is also outdoor seating at the front of the building.

As the speciality of the house is seafood I had char roasted marron with saffron butter, caramelised onion chutney and pickled cucumber. My husband went for the ‘old school’ garlic prawns with some chilli and toasted sourdough. Both dishes were excellent. The table of six next to us ordered ten dishes and finished them all in record time!

The menu is not large but there are some very interesting inclusions such as duck bao with pickled vegetable slaw and spicy peanut crumble, lemon myrtle and vodka tempura fish goujons and Italian pork, lamb and feta meatballs with spicy passata and Parmesan. Prices range from $12-30. The wine list features many local Great Southern wines.

Loft 22 may be new but it has already made an impact on the local dining scene: a great addition to Albany.
